Sometimes I think Madison, Wisconsin needs to learn some lessons about racism. All the time, really. I would like Jane Elliot to come here and do the Angry Eye thing on this whole goddamned city. Or the whole state.

I am an outsider, and I love living here, but I have to tell you. These people are clueless as to their racism. Because they’re liberal. They’re hippies. They’re socially conscious. They grow organic shit and buy locally and love unions and celebrate LGBTQ rights and socialism and things of that general nature.

But on race? They don’t even know shit. I hear it in my classroom almost daily. And I see it out in public. And Dane County is a leader in the nation on racial profiling by police. And no one seems to understand this is happening. Here. Not just in the south. Here. Every day. All the time.

And that’s for real.
